‘A most curious thing’ / Lewis Carroll Library

A children’s library should feel fun and inviting rather than funereal, according to the minds behind the Lewis Carrol Library in Islington. So Beam was approached to help them create an inspiring environment for children aged from three to fifteen in which to read, learn and play.

In honour of the library’s namesake, we chose stimulating scenes and quotes from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and translated them into illustrated wall coverings throughout. The considered selection of the scenes together with the illustration style ensured the library environment would work for both a younger and older audience in content, size and style.

Effectiveness The Lewis Carroll Library saw an increase in the number of visits by over 10% from the previous year and a 40% increase in book loans.
